During the fourteenth to seventeenth century beginning in Italy but spreading throughout all of Europe a major change took place in all aspects in life. This time period, now commonly referred to, as the renaissance was a time of learning, painting and educational reform. Trade expanded in Asia and Europe bringing wealth to Italy and allowing a great increase in prosperity. The term renaissance when directly translated form French means rebirth. Just as the Roman Empire had to reinstate itself Detroit will have to reestablish itself as something other then the motor city. Although Detroit has much work ahead it one day can become a city of great riches as it was in the past.
The Roman Empire at its peak was arguable the greatest empire ever built. It controlled the largest land area in European history, spanning about 2.3 million square miles across Europe. It was able to conquer and controlled so much land because of it superior army. During this time many advances were made in Rome such as, dams and draining systems, trade on the Silk Road, and many luxurious buildings. The most impressive work of the Roman Empire was the creation of the Colossum. It was the most magnificent amphitheatre in the world a great reflection on the most powerful Empire of that time.
Like the Roman Empire Detroit also went through a time of superb greatness. With a bustling metropolis full of people, blooming businesses and a culture growth all around, Detroit was the place to be during the late 1800’s to mid 1900’s. Henry Ford’s automobile factory attracted many people because of its promising jobs raising Detroit’s population by 113% in just ten years and reaching its peak of almost two million by 1950. Skyscrapers and new businesses were being built to supply much needed room and materials to the expanding city. [continues]
