In the globalized environment we are living, Information technology and computers have become such an important aspect of our lives and it is highly doubtful that there will be any returning to traditional methods of conducting business. The essay seeks to discuss the role of information technology (IT) in changing workplace dynamics. The adoption of innovations in Information Technology and organizational practices since the 1990s now makes it possible to organize around what can be done with information in organizations.
In definition of key terms, information technology according to (www.techterms.com) refers to anything related to computing technology, such as networking hardware, software, the internet or the people that work with this technology. In other words it is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. Business are no strangers to technology, whether its email, employee monitoring, computer networking or even just plain photocopying technology plays an important role in the infrastructure and changing day to day operations of most business. Dixon (1993) opines that the reason that most organizations are inefficient is their lack of systematic processes to facilitate learning and change.
Moving on to the roles of information technology, firstly it makes it possible to telecommunicate. This therefore, has become the most efficient way of fostering communication in an organization, hence its role.

According to (Carnall, 2007) Information Technology and attendant technologies and tools can be used to automate key business operations, functions and activities of a business. For instance, traditionally miners used physical surveillance of the ground, thus, using the physical appearance, the type of trees around the places, and also the type of soil and stone surrounding the area to detect the presence of the minerals, but due to technology there computerized machines such as the gold detector which provides information about the presence of the mineral in its quantities. This enhances the production of minerals. Market-available software, computing applications, networking just to mention a few can help professionals, workers and staff in a business to streamline work processes and execute tasks and functions faster in order to achieve organizational defined goals and targets. In addition to that, fostering greater collaboration can be seen as a role of information technology (IT) in changing workplace dynamics. According to (Miller, 2009) internet communication and telecommunication technology and information technology software systems can enable worker to work, interact and share information across locations and geographical boundaries.
