1.0 My Roles, Responsibilities, Boundaries and Relationships as a Teacher
1.1 Roles:
Being a Business Studies teacher on the topic People Management which is one of the functions of the Business Studies, I have to follow certain roles and responsibilities as a teacher.
According to Ann Gravells in his book (The Award in Education and Training, 2014, Page 3), he stated the below cycle for the role as a Teacher:

Therefore as a Business Studies teacher on People Management, I will initially identify the needs by finding out the organisation’s and potential learner’s needs and then I will carry out initial assessments and agree individual learning plans. Once I have prepare individual learning plans then I would prepare a scheme of work, session plans, prepare teaching and learning materials by making sure that I cover the syllabus by liasing with others if required.
I will then make sure that I facilitate learning by using variety of teaching and learning approaches such as interactive sessions, presentations, reports etc. Once the learning is facilitated, I will check to see if learners have gained the skills and knowledge necessary by assessing their learning. Once the skills have been assessed, I will make sure that feedback is given to the learners, by evaluating myself, obtaining feedback from others so that improvements can be made in future. Evaluation also helps in finding out strengths and weakness. I have to make sure that evaluation is an ongoing process throughout all the stages of the above cycle.
According to Gravells, following the above cycle is a good quality assurance system. Therefore I should make sure that as a teacher, I follow good internal and external quality assurance system which is considered as a good practice by incorporating the above cycle in my role as a teacher for the benefit of learners, teachers, the Organisation and for the community as a whole. (Gravells 2007) states that “learners learn from each other as well as the tutor”.

1.2 Responsibilities of a Teacher:
As a teacher in business studies - People Management Function, I am responsible for teaching 14 to 19 year olds. One of my main responsibilities would be to comply with all the relevant legislations relating to teaching and to my specific area of teaching. Some of the Legislations which I should comply with includes Data Protection Act (1998), Equality Act (2010), Children Act (2004), Copyright Designs and Patents Act (1998), Freedom of Information Act (2000), Health and Safety at Work etc Act(1974), Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act(2006), Sex Discrimination Act (1975) and various consumer protection Acts. Apart from the Legislations, I should also comply with the regulatory requirements and codes of professional practice relating to Business Studies.
Other responsibilities include making sure ground rules are established and followed, acting professionally with integration, communicating effectively and appropriately at all levels, completing attendance records timely, attending meetings, ensuring assessment of learners done are valid, reliable, fair and ethical by complying with Equality Act (2010), following different teaching, learning and assessment approaches.
I should also make sure that Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding requirements are followed by all individuals concerned. I should also provide appropriate information, advice and guidance and support as required. I should support learners to develop their various basic skills such as in English, Maths, and in Information Technology. I must make sure confidentiality relating to personal records are maintained according to Data Protection Act. I must make sure that I am teaching in an inclusive, engaging and in motivating manner. I should know when and where to refer the learners to other people and agencies where necessary. I must use variety of assessment types, methods and tools to assess progress formally and informally and should give verbal and written feedback to learners. Finally, I think that I should make sure I adapt reflective learning where learning happens from successes as well as mistakes.
1.3 Boundaries between my own Teaching role and other professional roles
My Boundaries as a teacher is a point where my role as a teacher stops and I should make sure that I am aware of this aspect. Some of my personal and professional boundaries are - I should not be too personally involved with students as a friend and should not meet them in private places or in any non-school environment. I should neither be exchanging notes with them nor sending them personal letters or e-mails. I must not give gifts and other monetary items to students and should not invite them to my home and ask them to stay with me overnight. I should not practice favouritism in the classroom and should not share personal information to a third party. I should make sure I do not share personal problems with students and also do not have physical contact with them.
At some point in my teaching profession, I will be required to liaise with other professional roles such as administrative staff, other teachers, managers, parents, guardians, employers, care takers, internal and external verifiers and other external training agencies. Hence I should make sure that I always act professionally and never let any personal issues affect me in carrying out my duties as a teacher. In my role as teacher, I have to liase and interact with the above said professionals and therefore I should make sure that I work within my areas of remits and understand the remits of other departments so that no conflicts arises and achieve my aims and the others aims.
For example, I may come across learners in my class with financial and other difficulties and I should know where to direct the learner to and should know the difference between my role and the others in the sector.
