1. ROLE OF CINEMA IN THE PROCESS OF EDUCATION
Cinema plays a very important role in the process of education. Most of the people now a days have become habitual film goer. For the reason stated below it is a very effective instrument for influencing human behavior. i. Cinema depicts the sublimated story of human experiences and emotions and portrays by word , action and colour , the love and fear, joys and sorrows which all human beings have felt but which they fail to express. An unlimited variety of human experiences is portrayed in moving panorama. Cinema , thus succeeds in developing and capturing the spontaneous interest of the audience which is so essential in the process of learning. ii. Producers can manipulate the human experiences according to their own purpose and secure the desired modification of the behavior in the audience. iii. The cinema star enjoys great social prestige and hence suggestions from them often have great influence.
Experience studies have revealed that cinema modifies the behavior patterns of the individual and influence group standards of conduct. But it is unfortunately dominated by the commercial interests. Its objective is only to make money and thus educative influence of the cinema to a great extent is not all positive . there should be more planned use of the cinema with higher objectives. Documentary and educational films should be prepared even though it might mean less profitable. Such attempts infact should be subsidized by the state.
2. ROLE OF RADIO IN THE PROCESS OF EDUCATION
Radio is another great medium for communication. Its educative values depends upon the following : * It can communicate with millions of people at the same time. * It brings us to direct communication with people who enjoy great prestige with us. * As it can tap resources available in any part of the world, the standard of communication made by the radio is much higher than what can be usually expected from the classroom or other kinds of gathering. Radio is a scientific device that functions as an effective auditory instrument for communication. It also plays an important role in education. It is not only informs, but also inspires human being for learning more and more. It is not only includes values and virtues, but also creates attitudes, interests and appreciation of human life. It can cover a very wide area at the same time. The Educational Functions of Radio are discussed below:
1. Quantitative expansion and qualitative improvement of education: Radio has immense values, particularly in a developing country like India where constraints of finance, efficient teachers, suitable equipment and appliances adversely affect educational planning and administration. Radio is to play a significant part in expansion as well as qualitative improvement of education. There are some inaccessible areas in our country where expansion of education has faced difficulties. To a large number of socially disadvantaged children, education is neither meaningful nor interesting. There has been a growing awareness about the inadequacy of the traditional or formal system of education not only for expansion, but also for improving the standards of education. The need for alternative mass-media is gradually felt along- with non-formal system of education. 2. Fostering the sense of National Integration and International Understanding: Radio is an important instrument to foster the sense of unity and integrity among the people. The cultural programmes, debates, talks, through broadcasts involve a strong desire among the people to know each and other's culture and values. In order to promote a sense of understanding and unity among people it is an inexpensive, but potential communication medium reaching all levels of people.
