Role Model Essay- Kobe Bryant
On April 12, 2011, the San Antonio Spurs went head to head with the Las Angeles Lakers. To give you an overview of the game, the San Antonio Spurs went home with a lost for the game, but in my book I believe that the Lakers lost that night. Now, why I say that is because Kobe Bryant played with a very short fuse on this night, which is a common thing to see. He earned his fifteenth technical foul of the season and coming close to the NBA’s one game suspension. Bryant’s tantrum was really elevated by punching a chair on the bench. Now, I am personally not surprised, since all season long he has thrown these tantrums. I say tantrums because Kobe is the type of guy that feels everything should go his way. Kobe Bryant was born August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, raised Roman Catholic by Joe “jellybean” Bryant and Pamela Cox Bryant. Being from a Christian religion you would expect more of a respectful attitude, especially in a role model to our children. In my opinion, Kobe Bryant puts out a persona of a new ager in that he is very ego-centrically. He believes that he should be able to get away with anything he wants, even if that is hurting someone else. Yes, I said even hurting someone would not come across him as being wrong. On July 1, 2003, Kobe Bryant was at a Hotel, Cordillera hotel in Colorado, awaiting having surgery the next day. That night Kobe met Katelyn Faber, a nineteen year old employee at the hotel. Katelyn reported Kobe raping her to the Eagle County Sheriff’s department the next day. Bryant admitted having a sexual encounter with Miss. Faber, but at the time he believed it to be consensual between them both. On July 4th Sheriff Joe Hoy issued an arrest warrant for Lakers superstar Kobe Bean Bryant. Bryant came back to eagle to turn himself in, voluntarily, right away being released on a twenty five thousand dollar bond. If Kobe is

Growing up with a dad who was All-State for Basketball, and a Grandfather who played Division I basketball; I was always expected to be good at ball. I was always decent but never quite lived to expectations. When I turned 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 3 scoliosis, which limited not only my quickness but my ability to twist and run normally. The basketball dynasty was coming to an end as I had lost a lot of athleticism. I was always on the middle team, not very good, not very bad, but I always tried new moves; which made me hard to guard. I finally quit all sports because my back couldn’t handle the stress, and I wasn’t prepared to go into surgery. One day as I was watching…

Today many world views are emerging among celebrities that can effect whether or not they are a good role model to people, for example is former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson and his worldview of Buddhism. Jackson’s worldview effects his life as much as anyone’s does, particularly in the areas of family, money/career and the nature of God. When comparing his world view to mine of a Christian world view you can see the many differences more clearly than the very few similarities, however do those differences play a big enough factor to determine his quality of a role model, or lack thereof.…

As the 2013 season began to move on, the Lakers were not doing as well as they planned to. With an injury to their all-star point guard Steve Nash in the first game of the season, the Lakers were stuck because now they didn’t have a dominant point guard. It was all up to Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard to score. Now everyone knew how Kobe played, he would shoot an insanely amount of shots every game and even though he does make a good percentage of them, it was not enough to bring the Lakers to victory. Kobe was not passing the ball enough therefore no one else was really scoring on the team. Kobe is good but he cannot do it all.…

There is a reason why the average kid in school shouts “KOBE” and not “LeBron” after he shoots a crumbled up piece of paper into a trash can. Kobe is a basketball wizard and is known as one of the greatest players in history. He is a winner and isn’t that what it’s all about, winning? Yes, LeBron might be bigger, faster, and stronger, but he lacks Kobe’s IQ and skill on the court, and infatuation for being the best. But most importantly Kobe Bryant is a true basketball warrior.…

This privilege is well known by many but talked about by none. Offenses are committed time and again by people from different occupations. From mailmen to educators and even some law enforcers, any and every line of work has the tendency to harbor an offender; the sports world is no different. In 2003, All- Star basketball player Kobe Bryant was accused of sexual assault by an employee of a Vail- area resort where he stayed that summer. Prosecutor’s said Bryant flirted with the woman, a front desk employee, during a tour of the resort. After the ended up in his room, they began to kiss, which she acknowledged was consensual. Investigators have said the encounter turned violent and that she told Bryant “no” at least twice. In the civil suit, the attorneys said at some point during the kissing “Bryant’s voice became deeper and his acts became rougher” as he began to grope the woman. She asked him to stop, but Bryant allegedly blocked her exit, grabbed her and forced her over a chair to rape her. Bryant’s hands were around the woman’s neck, the attorneys said — “a perceived threat of potential strangulation if she resisted his advances” (Nbcsports). In 2004, after much publicity and heartache the case was dismissed by the prosecutors, even after spending at least $ 200, 000 on preparing for the trial (Nbcsports). Bryant was forgiven by both his wife and his fans for his offenses because he harbored that special privilege that comes with the territory. Despite the fact that the female was the victim of the situation death threats against her life were made. Bryant’s beloved fans would rather the woman remain quiet than to get the justice she deserves; they would rather that their basketball god’s good named be saved rather than the truth of his actions be told. Because Bryant has so much money he is thought of as an icon and someone to be looked up and most feel that despite what he does it is…

On the 20th of October, 1998, the world was blessed with a talented basketball player. (That would be me.) Growing up, I didn’t really have reasons to like basketball. My family did not play or have interest in any kind of sport, besides for my father turning on the Lakers game once in a while. So my influence had to come about from a mishap. A mishap I am very thankful for. The television was playing the Lakers game in my living room one night when my attention was caught by an astonishing performance by a player wearing the number 8. Shot after shot he would score with emphasis, scowling after each basket. This player was arguably one of the greatest professional basketball players still to this day, Kobe Bryant. It was at this moment that…
