CHAPTER I:Rock music

I.1.Personal Motivation

The topic of my project work is ”Rock and Rock and roll music”. Ever since I have heard about this project, day by day I started thinking on what could be suitable for me. At first I was very confused and I didn’t know what to choose but at a certain point, I do not know how it happened but suddenly I felt that this is what I want to speak about: ”Rock and Rock and roll music”. The reason why I have chosen Rock and Rock and roll music as my subject is because I love rock music. Since I was a kid I have been a big fan of this genre of music. It allows individuals to express themselves, whether through anger or any emotion because of its variety of subgenres. Also the lyrics of this music represents me because of their stylistic art and deepness. The orchestra also combines pleasantly with the lyrics. Rock music has many types of lyrics, from the sad and depressing to the optimistic ones for different feelings, so no matter how I feel, I can always find a friend in rock music which has a major importance in my life. It is that special kind of music that helps me to get over the hardest moments of my life. When I listen to its songs and bands it seems that life becomes easier. It is like entering another world, detaching from reality by forgetting the hardships and problems. I don’t know how to describe that feeling but it is like someone is a witness to my emotions. Most people associate rock music with anger and madness, but it is really an expression of any emotion. The rock bands and their songs have various themes. That is why I appreciate so much this genre of music and why I think it is one of the best musical currents. In this project I will present both the rock history from the origins to the present, its bands from Great Britain and United States of America where it originated and how has it influenced people’s culture. The foundations of rock music are in rock and roll so I will also write about this musical current because without it, rock music wouldn’t have existed. In my opinion for a listener of this kind of music it is necessary to know where it appeared, when and how it developed. I also think that rock music was special for the musical world in the moment when it appeared. It had a major influence on culture, fashion and social attitudes.

I.2.Defining music and its influence in our lives

How to define music has long been the subject of debate; philosophers, musicians, and, more recently, various social and natural scientists have argued about what constitutes music. The definition has varied through history, in different regions, and within societies. Definitions vary as music, like art, is a subjectively perceived phenomenon. Its definition has been tackled by philosophers of art, lexicographers, composers, music critics, musicians, semioticians or semiologists, linguists, sociologists, and neurologists. Music may be defined according to various criteria including organization, pleasantness, intent, social construction, perceptual processes and engagement, universal aspects or...
