Pour 1 cup of water and 2 cups of sugar into a pan.
Bring the sugar solution up to a low boil, stirring with a wooden spoon until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Pour the solution into a glass jar.
Clamp a clothespin midway down the length of a wooden chopstick. The clothespin, which is set perpendicular to the chopstick, prevents the chopstick from dropping completely into the sugar solution.
Place the chopstick into the sugar solution, letting one end dangle down into the glass. Sugar crystals will form on the chopstick within three to seven days.
