Persona Famosa Hispana Ricky Martin was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was born on December 24th 1971. Ricky Martin’s singing career started at the age of twelve when he became part of the music group, Menudo. The group Menudo was a very popular Puerto Rican music group. During Ricky’s 5 years with the group, he traveled the world and learned to sing several different languages such as Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and English. The group had an age limit, so at the age of eighteen Ricky stepped down from the group and he began his solo singing and acting career.
In 1988, he released his debut album, Ricky Martin. Over 500,000 copies were sold worldwide. His debut album became one of the highest selling Latin debuts in the past 10 years at the time. Then in 1989 he released his album Me Amaras, which earned him the “Best New Latin Artist Award” at the Billboard Video Awards in 1993. A couple months later, Ricky started focusing more on his acting career. He appeared on many T.V shows like Glee, Dancing with the Stars, General Hospital, Getting by, Barefoot in Paradise, and also a Hispanic television series called Alcanzar Una Estrella. Eventually he went back to singing and he released the album A Medio Vivir. He released more English and Spanish album which were all very popular.
Ricky Martin not alone cared about his music and acting career, but also Children in need of help. Martin spoke in front of the U.S. House International Relations Committee to improve the rights of all children worldwide. In 2005, he received the International Humanitarian Award from the International Center of Missing and Exploited Children. Ricky was rewarded with many more awards for his caring, charitable work.
