Perry’s views on Abortion
Rick Perry is strongly pro-life. He has spoken often at pro-life events and pursued its legislation. He has spoken often of his views on mortality and the need to protect those who cannot protect themselves. He supports parental consent laws and in June of 2005 his office released a statement expressing support for it. He said, “Today we are laying down a significant marker in the effort to create a culture of life by protecting those who can’t protect themselves, by giving voice to the voiceless who yearn for life”. Rick Perry has worked to make Texas safer for the unborn by signing parental notification and parental consent laws to ensure parents are involved in their minor daughters’ major decisions. Rick Perry supports the No Child Left Behind Act. He submitted plans for Texas to receive funding from the program. Rick Perry said “Texas was on the right path toward improved education, and we would be foolish and irresponsible to place our children’s future in the hands of unelected bureaucrats and special interest groups thousands of miles away in Washington, virtually eliminating parents’ participation in their children’s education”. He takes interest in charter schools, and under Rick Perry the amount of students attending charter schools almost tripled; but still represents only 2% of the student population. Rick Perry supports adult stem-cell research but he opposes embryonic stem-cell research. He has invested into adult stem-cell research and has spoken against embryonic stem-cell research.
