Dan is a caring father and actor. He is very complex and he suffers from great diffidence. He is not very improvising and is scared of taking chances. As much as his wife believes in him to be able to make it in the business, as little does he believe in it himself. When Beth suggests that they all move to L.A he doesn't want to go. He'd rather stay in the UK so he can ”...blame her forever for holdning him back... ” and ”...for making it impossible to realise his dreams...” Already then we see that he is lacking self-confidence and the fact that he does know it. He then changes inflection though and does agree with her idea which shows that he is not all a wreck but also has somewhat hopes left.
Either that or he is too proud to let his wife know his true feelings. Calling
