Rhinoplasty better known as a nose job, is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting and reconstructing the nose. The purpose of rhinoplasty is; to aesthetically enhance the nose, restore its functions, resolve any nasal trauma, congenital defect, or respiratory impediment. There are 3 major types of rhinoplasty, closed rhinoplasty, open rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty. In closed rhinoplasty the surgeon makes several incisions in the inside of the nose and makes the necessary revisions to correct the nose without creating scars in the exterior . This technique is often preferred when there are minor imperfections to be corrected. In open rhinoplasty and additional small incision is made in the skin ,that separates the nostrils at the base of the nose to expose the cartilage. Depending on the unique needs, open rhinoplasty may give the surgeon better access to the anatomy of the nose, in order to make more precise corrections. Revision rhinoplasty are for the noses that have already gone a previous surgery . It can be quite a challenge for revision rhinoplasty and it requires different techniques. In general you can expect the total cost of rhinoplasty to range anywhere between 4,500 to 20,000 dollars. Rhinoplasty is typically performed on an outpatient basis. The surgery itself takes anywhere from one to three hours. Before the surgery a surgeon may ask the patient to take vitamins, fast, and quit smoking. After surgery a splint is applied to maintain the shape of the nose, this splint usually comes off after two weeks. The most common risk one can experience after rhinoplasty is bruising and swelling. More serious risks involve blood clots, infections, scars and breathing problems. Rhinoplasty is the second most popular surgical procedure and one of the most difficult as the surgeon performs mainly by feel.
