1.1 Design brief
Kajang was first established in 1807 and developed into a modern township as it enjoys the rapidly increasing rubber estate business at the turn of the 20th century. Today, Kajang is a sub-urban township of Klang Valley and have been linked with modern highways and complete network of transportations. Situated in the southern part of Selangor state of Hulu Langat district, it is inhabited by more than 230,000,000 residents of various races and religion. The process of revitalizing deteriorate sections of the city is often done through demolition and new construction. Although urban renewal programs may be privately funded, it is most often associated with government renewal programs. For example, most large cities have experienced some urban renewal in the last 20 years. The typical program attempts to demolish concentrations of dilapidated housing and often attract developers of middle-income or mixed housing. Often, however, urban renewal areas become sites for new public buildings such as civic auditoriums, sport arenas and universities. The improvement of slum, deteriorated and underutilized areas of the city; generally implies improvement realized through city, state and particularly federal programs, including the clearance and redevelopment of slums (overcrowded area of a city in which the housing is typically in a bad condition), the rehabilitation of relatively sound structures, and conservation measures to arrest the spread of deterioration. The old town of Kajang is in such condition. The old buildings are dilapidated and are still standing in need of attention. 2. 0 Design Concept

2.1.1 Garden City Overview
Howard in his concept, attempted to locate overcrowded centers to be more neat and organize, with the optimum size of 58,000 people per town. The concept is also about bringing the residential and urban area close to the nature, which is circled by agriculture belt, controlled by public authority. {draw:frame} {draw:frame} The city centre must contain commercial development, club building and also cultural places. The idea lead to the new garden city development at that time, the Letchworth (Parker & Unwin) and the second garden city Welwyn, New York. 2.1.2 Kajang Garden City Concept
For the new revitalization of Kajang town, the attempt is to implement the Garden City characteristic and concept with a few changes and alteration for improvement to suit the current development and location. The main ring road will solve the congestion problem that occurring in Kajang town as a transition town. From the main ring road, the secondary and local road will be distributed. Hierarchy of open spaces is well thought to cater the green area, public realm and also buffer zone. Open spaces are relocated and refurbish to obtain the optimum ratio between open spaces and developed area. A nice figure ground will derived from this approach. {draw:frame} After all consideration have been made, a revitalized Kajang that has good mix of development use, basic health, education, accommodation, commercial and service needs, good flow of vehicular circulation and pedestrian friendly. {draw:frame} *2.2* Site Concept : TRANSITION

Connecting these city and towns has developed Kajang along the timeline, evolving into transitional town. Kajang has been an alternative route for people to escape from toll charges. The problem create another problem which is congesting the vehicular flow within Kajang town. So, after the Garden City concept applying the...
