Clash of the Titans 1981
I would give a thumbs down for the 1981 version of Clash of the Titans. After watching the movie you can’t help but to be disappointed in the poor effects used but most of all the varying off from the original story line. I found the movie painful to watch with people physically cranking up the gates under water in the bottom corner of the screen. The special effects they used to create the Kraken, the vulture, Pegasus and Medusa were terrible. It just seemed so unrealistic that it was hard to even let your creativity and imagination make it more lifelike. Along with the special effects needing improvement, I also believe their story line was too inaccurate. For example in the real Greek myth, Perseus does not need Medusa’s head to kill the Kraken, only his sworn was needed. Also Perseus does not meet Pegasus until after he defeats Medusa and Pegasus forms from her blood. In my opinion they varied too much from the real story which ruins the whole point of having a movie portraying one of the Greek myths. Although overall I did rate it a thumbs down, if you had never read the original Greek myth it does have an entertaining story line and is full of imagination and creativity. The actors played their roles well making it an easy movie to follow along. To sum it up, if you haven’t heard of the story Clash of the Titans before you might enjoy it, otherwise the story line needs to be more accurate to the original and the special effects need improvement.
