Responsibility

Responsibility

When we as individuals decide to take ownership of what needs doing and accept the blame when we cause problems we are taking responsibility. Responsibility is defined as moral, legal or mental accountability. This is something that is instilled in most of us at a young age from our parents and people that we look up to. Responsibility can mean many things such as taking responsibility for one’s actions, social responsibility, and family responsibilities. Being a responsible person is not always an easy task and while it can be daunting, it can also be very rewarding. Responsibility is a characteristic that can make an individual successful in life. Moral Accountability

Moral accountability, or knowing right from wrong, is very important for us as human beings to possess. Most of us are taught moral accountability from a young age and are held accountable all through life by our parents, teachers, supervisors, and friends. We are expected to always be responsible as children, teenagers and as adults. We should always try to make good, moral decisions and do the right thing. We all know someone who is not reliable, dependable or responsible. They tend to make bad decisions and we question how they were raised or what is going on in their head that would make them do certain things. An example of moral accountability would be a friend of mine who knew it was wrong to steal from his job, yet he continued to do so. He knew it was wrong so he would try to cover his tracks, and when questioned about missing items, he would lie and say he knew nothing. He eventually got caught and he admitted that he knew it was wrong, but he wanted the items so bad that he was willing to risk his job by stealing. Social Responsibility
