P1 –
Emergencies like earthquakes and floods cause more harm than others and are more visible than others. Larger scale incidents are known as major incidents whilst smaller ones are known as smaller incidents. Smaller incidents can still be classed as an emergency. The government defines an emergency as an event or situation that threats a person safety, property or war and terrorism that threatens serious damage to the security to the county. This is defined by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. All emergency incidents are graded by experienced call handles.
The Police, Fire and Ambulance service and duty bound to respond to all emergency incidents because they all gave different responsibilities and roles to play. They also have different graded response policies to deal with each incident. All emergencies are graded by the call handler. The information that is provided by caller is used to judge the serious of the incident. Once a 999 call has been made, the call handler has to assess the information that has been given to them, by the caller to judge whether the incident is a top priority or if the incident doesn’t require a response. All responses are graded in accordance with the National Call Handling Standards by the Home Office.
Each public service uses a different response grade to judge the seriousness of an incident. The Police use Grade 1-4. Grade 1 is top priority emergency. It is usually an incident that is currently taking place and there is a risk of danger to life, use or immediate threat of violence, serious injury to a person or damage to property. Grade 1 emergencies could be traffic collisions, if it involves serious personal injury, the road is blocked or there is dangerous excessive build-up of traffic. Another grade 1 emergency could be criminal conduct if it involves a crime which is likely to be serious or to be currently in progress. Also offender has been disturbed at the scene meaning that have been caught
