DEVELOPING A RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR SUCCESSFUL PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Quite a number of projects are abandoned or failed as a result of bad management of resources in Nigeria. Even the ones considered successful over shoot by the cost and time. Most project failure can be attributed to inadequate knowledge of resource management.
This project aim at developing a resource management system or technique that can serve as guide for a successful project management. Therefore will be discussing the various resources required in a typical project.
A resource is a source or supply from which benefit is produced. Typically resources are materials or other assets that are transformed to produce benefit and in the process may be consumed or made unavailable. From a human perspective a natural resource is anything obtained from the environment to satisfy human needs and wants.[1] From a broader biological or ecological perspective a resource satisfies the needs of a living organism (see biological resource.
Resources may be defined as factors of production. The objective of any production effort is to either manufacture a good, or render a service, essentially needed by someone else. In order to produce, management, which is the art of; planning, or organizing, directing, controlling and coordinating resources, must be involved. Resources refer to the 5Ms of management; namely; men/women, money, machines, materials and methods. Effective resource management therefore, requires the appropriate management of the 5Ms, so as to achieve desired goals. In resource management, human resource is seen as very important. We may have money, sophisticated machinery, high quality materials, land with most precious minerals, unless we have the right quantity and quality of human resources, (obtained through adult education) real development and progress will be impossible to attain.
