Landscape design is an art and a responsibility to create a space which physically , mentally , visually soothes us. It denotes the interaction of people and a place from which the users derive some part of their shared identity and meaning .

The relationship between a building and its landscape is much more deeper than just a green color. It creates a context and character of a space and also interactive spaces are formed with some open spaces coming in the picture. The responsibility of an architect is more than just designing buildings which are sustainable and donates in creating a healthy environment at its level.

This research investigates the importance of landscape design in the hospitality sectors like resorts and hotels. The success of a resort depends upon the relationship of its building ,the location , its landscape and the experience it offers to the tourists.

The literature review serves as a theoretical way of approaching this topic in order to gain a better understanding of the landscape planning and provide a basis for the practical research on this topic.

Integration of building and landscape means the incorporation of landscape elements and the built structures on the site simultaneously. It is concerned with the creation of a framework of attractive spaces for the users of the building. The research will be based on the importance of well landscape design for a resort.

1.1 - AIM

The aim of this study is to understand the Integrated Design Approach to a building’s landscape and Importance of Landscape Design in Resorts.


• To find the ways to integrate the building and its landscape

• To analyse the role and importance of landscape design in a resort

• To find or derive design methods to achieve an integrated landscape design

• To determine the factors that lead to a succesful landscape design


Landscape is a practice and a process of perceiving , interpreting and organizing our surroundings. It denotes the interaction of people and place thus creating a social environment.

The trend of developing the buildings first and focussing completely on the designing and planning of the same has pushed the landscape designing away and unnoticed.

However, the accurate way of development of a design would be simultaneous planning of both.We need to see landscape through somewhat of an architectural lens and with the conviction that landscape is very much a designed condition. A building gains a status of being environmental friendly , sustainable when it is designed merging with the natural surroundings and elements.
