RESEARCH PROPOSAL
What is RESEARCH?
Research is an activity of discovering new findings/outcomes in the field of study. Discoveries mean a new knowledge that has not been studied before and therefore we explore it.
The new knowledge that we contribute can be in terms of new methodology and new variables which are not studied in the previous empirical study. Thus, from there, we attempt to improve, or generate new knowledge. That what we call it RE-SEARCH!!
Content of Research Proposal
Basically, the content of research proposal consists of three chapters.
Chapter 1 Introduction
- Background of study
Describe the current scenario of the field of study. It can be coupled with statistics to show the pattern/trend
- Problem statement
What is the problem arise in that field of study? Problems faced by a country or firm or individual
- Objective of the study
What are the purposes of studying this topic? Why to study?
- Scope/Limitation of the study
To what extend/degree the study covers? It covers the space and time dimension. Space dimension- focuses on which country? Firm? Or group of individual? It can be also a comparison study (2 objects).
Time dimension – the range of data covered in the study. For example: the data ranged from year 1970 to 2008. The mode of data – Yearly? Monthly? Bi-monthly? Quarters? Daily? The number of observation (n) is at least 30.
Apart from space and time dimension, identify the variables in the study. Which variable is dependent variable and which are independent variables?
- Significance of the study
The importance of the study we discover. For example, it is important to firm, stakeholder, government, household or who else?
Chapter 2 Literature Review
This chapter generally reviews or revises the knowledge of the study. The revision/review is divided into 2 parts. The first part is theory of the study, second part is empirical... [continues]
