1. EXEXCUTIVE SUMMARY
NIFT, like many other prestigious National Institutes, has a centralized placement process. Placement processes are held at various centres respectively and students from different streams at NIFTs from all across the country gather there for placements. Companies come to each centre with the purpose of recruiting students from various streams including Fashion Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Bachelors of Fashion Technology, Masters of Fashion Technology, Masters of Fashion Management, etc. According to the placement policy of NIFT, Gandhinagar, a student, if recruited by any organization, doesn’t have the choice of accepting or rejecting the offer. He/she is ruled out of further placement processes and is not allowed to interview, or even apply for any other job opening. This matter has been of utmost concern of the faculty and students and has been constantly debated upon, ever since it was introduced, but has never b een researched upon. Every person seems to have a different opinion on the matter and seems to justify it with his/her own valid reasons. Our research aims at finding out the opinions of various students, faculty as well as organizations with on the subject and to analyse the various reasons behind their respective opinions. We wish to observe the distribution of opinions of various students and faculty based on several parameters, which include:
Perception towards placements
Importance of placements on the First Day
The research would aim at covering the following population:
Third and fourth year students at majority of NIFT centres
Faculty members at majority of NIFT centres.
Several corporate, both large and small scale.
The final conclusion of the research would aim at making the Placement cell, the RIC and the faculty members understand the perspective of the students and would make the students aware of what the faculty thinks it would also make people at NIFT understand the perspective of corporate coming to hire at NIFT. It may initiate a change in the policy if a substantial number of students, faculties and corporates, ranging through various stratas.
2. PROBLEM STATEMENT
NIFT Placement Policy doesn’t allow any students to apply or interview for any other organization, once they are accepted at one organization, irrespective of whether they accept or reject the job offer, while a lot of students would like to have the option of applying for a better job even after they’ve been accepted at one organization . SHOULD NIFT STUDENTS BE ALLOWED TO REJECT A JOB OFFER AND INTERVIEW FOR ANOTHER ORGANIZATION, ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AT ONE COMPANY? WHAT ARE THE FACTORS THAT DRIVE THE OPINIONS OF VARIOUS PEOPLE?
3.1 Main Objective
To study the acceptance of the placement policy among students, faculty and corporate organizations.
To divide the target population into various strata.
To study opinions of different strata on the policy.
To study the factors driving those opinions.
To analyse the results.
To suggest a viable change in the policy
