I was born in October of 1984. While my birth was certainly the most important event of October 1984 to me, many other things occurred during that month that would be considered of importance to the world. There were newsworthy political events, memorable movies and songs made their debuts, and many other things going on in the world at the time. October of 1984 was a very important month due to my birth and other world events.
October of 1984 was a very busy month in regard to politics. Many important things, both good and bad, happened during this month. Probably the most memorable political event was the tragic assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She was shot by two of her security guards on October 31st, which led to riots where nearly 2,000 innocent people were killed (spiritus-temporis.com). Other important political events included investigations into whether the CIA supplied Nicaraguan rebels with terrorism manuals, English Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was uninjured in a hotel bombing, and Bishop Desmond Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize (spiritus-temporis.com).
October of 1984 was a good year for movies, music, and television shows. According to spiritus-temporis.com, the legendary movie the Terminator was first released during this month. The top songs of the time included I Just Called to Say I Love You by Stevie Wonder, Jump by Van Halen, and Like a Virgin by Madonna. Cheers, St. Elsewhere, Miami Vice, and The Cosby Show were popular television shows at the time (dmarie.com).
Lastly, there were a few important health/technology events that occurred in October of 1984 that I felt were worth mentioning. On October 25th, the virus that causes blood-transmitted hepatitis was identified (dmarie.com).
