(a)   Research Methodology – Article 1
Based on the article titled ‘The Effect Of Video Game Violence On Physiological   Desensitization to Real-Life Violence’.
Problem statement:
One of the main public and political issues is the influence of video game exposure, particularly the effect of exposure to extremely violent video games on aggression and violence.
The reasons behind such concern the pervasiveness of violence in current video games, and the growing evidences that demonstrate the adverse effects of violent media exposure. It is estimated that more than 85% of video games contain some violence, and 50% of them has highly violent content. Previous research has established that youth exposed to violent media is more prone to become violent upon exposure, thus potentially causing them to be more aggressive adults.
Despite past researches have clearly identified that violent video game exposure increases antagonistic thoughts, angry feelings, physiological stimulation, hostile behaviors, and reduces helpful behaviors, there has been no research that tests the effects of violent video games on physiological desensitization.
In order to identify the effects of video games on physiological desensitization, a quantitative research has been designed, focusing on the physiological arousal of participants (i.e., HR and GSR). The results obtained are to be analyzed using ANCOVA.
Physiological desensitization refers to the phenomenon where subjects show less physiological arousal to violence in the real world upon exposure to violence in video games.
HR is the heart rate of participants, and it is measured in beats per minute (bpm).
GSR is the galvanic skin response of the participants, which measures the electrical resistance of the skin, is used in scientific research of emotional or physiological arousal, and is measured in Ohm (Ω).
ANCOVA is the analysis of covariance, a general linear model with a continuous outcome variable (quantitative) and two or... [continues]
