Introduction
This report is a research on people with hearing disabilities. The areas covered by the report are to research 3 accommodations for the hearing impaired in Auckland, New Zealand and evaluate whether the facilities and services they offer are appropriate for guests with hearing disabilities. The three accommodations are Mercure Hotel, Langham Hotel and Hilton Hotel. This includes interviewing members of the accommodations with written questionnaires to obtain information regarding the facilities, amenities and services they can provide for the people with the disability. Institutions such as the AUT Deaf Society will also be researched to gather information on the basic steps of service and facilities required to meet the needs and expectations of the hearing impaired. The data collected will be used as recommendations for the accommodations on how to improve their service and what facilities they could offer. Factors that may trigger deafness or hearing loss will be discussed and solutions and responsibilities will be outlined. The report also suggested a floor plan for the guest room with the disability and discussions will be made on why the amenities in the room are appropriate for the guest.
Hearing loss is a full or partial decrease in the ability to detect or understand sounds (Wikipedia, n.d.). A full decrease in hearing usually indicates deafness while a partial decrease is a hearing impairment. According to Pink (2002), “An estimated 223,500 adults were deaf or had a hearing limitation that could not be eliminated by a hearing aid in 2001.
