Introduction and Problem

The Court has 10000 PCs and some of them Visual Basic 5 are installed. There is a situation that Microsoft does not support Win 2000 in Jul 2010. Therefore the Court is planning to upgrade all PCs from Win 2000 to Win Vista. Nevertheless, there is a shortage of fund. Thus, the upgrade process will delay until early 2011. Since it incurs a test of all Visual Basic 5 applications, it takes a year to complete. And before upgrading to Win Vista, the Court may have security problem as there is no update patch for Win 2000 from Microsoft. In order to solve this problem, we write this report to describe the impact, give possible network solutions and make a recommendation with justification.
