Social Media “is a term used for the tools and platforms people use to publish, converse and share content online” (Designingforcivilsociety.com 2011). Examples of social media include, Blogs, Forums, Podcasts etc.
Some of the biggest social media sites include Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Facebook currently has “more than 800 million active users” (Facebook.com 2011). On twitter, another social media site, “140 million tweets are sent everyday” (Infographicinformation.com 2011). YouTube, a site in which people can upload and view videos, is also a big contributor to the social media platform. On YouTube over “3 billion videos” are watched everyday (Youtube.com (2011).
