About 5,000 people joined Sabah’s Head of State Juhar Mahiruddin and Chief Minister Musa Aman in celebrating Malaysia’s National Day at a colourful parade in Kota Kinabalu that speaks of national unity. It marks the 55th year of independence of the 13-state federation from Britain. The 172 contingents were drawn from the government, non-government organizations, private business and schools. Old cars such as the Volkswagen beetle and the Austin mini added to the gaiety as they were cheered by the crowd. There was a cultural performance by 800 school children aged between seven and 23.
The state ceremony was held in Dataran Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu on August 31st, 2012, in commemoration of Malaysia’s 55th independence. As part of our obligation as an agency under the Malaysian government, we successfully participated in the event. We sent a contingent with a total number of 42 staffs, 36 came from Head Office, Kota Kinabalu while the rest were Management Cadets from our West Coast Estates namely Inandung, Dalit, and Karamatoi KAV estates. As mentioned previously, staffs were of various units and levels. Last year, we sent a total of 36 staffs, this year as mentioned earlier, 42 staffs participated and we have seen the initiatives shown by staffs, they are seen to be more motivated to participate in such events, which is good as it promotes team-building, leadership quality, dicipline and love towards the country.
During this event, each staff was provided with two collared quick-dry shirts, a cap, a pair of black trousers and a corporate shirt with SLDB 68 logo as requested by our General Manager, marks the year of SLDB starting its operation, year 1968. Staffs have also been given cash allowances of RM 140.00 (Management Cadets) and RM 120.00(Head Office Staffs) as their reward of participation. They have also received a certificate of participation from the Kota Kinabalu City Hall.
