Questionably, there was a time when everyone considered fat children cute. They assumed that the fat in their bodies would melt away as the children grow and they would grow into healthy adults. Unquestionably, we all now know that obesity in children can be of great harm to children in our nation because it not only causes health problems but also psychological problems in young children. We can therefore define child obesity as a condition of children being overweight. This means that the excess fats are build up in the child’s body, resulting in the excess body weight. According to the recent researches that have been carried out by health institutions in Child such as National Center for Health Statistics, the number of children with obesity conditions has tripled over the last decade. This paper focuses on the dangers of childhood obesity and their possible solutions. Obesity is caused by poor lifestyle, poor eating habits and sometimes, it is genetically inherited. Usually, the intake of food with high fats and sugar results to obesity. Consumption of alcohol also contributes to the medical condition because alcohol has high sugar content. In fact, obesity affects 25-30% population of Australia and it is the second cause of preventable deaths after smoking in Australia (George 45-46). Researches on obesity show that fats tissues are important in our bodies. However, the presence of too much fat in our bodies leads to obesity. The research also shows that a person is considered obese when he or she is 20% above his or her normal weight. Obesity is measured by the calculation of the Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a mathematical calculation that is used in identifying obesity and overweight in people. The other major factor that leads to obesity is poor eating habits.
