History of Islam
In the year 570 our prophet Mohammed was born in Mecca, Raised by his uncle Abu Talib after the death of his father. About the year 590 Mohammed entered the service of trading which was sponsored by a widow named Khadijah. Sometime later he married her, and had two sons, neither of whom survived, and four daughters. In his forties, he began to meditate in a cave on Mount Hira, just outside Mecca, where the first of the great events of Islam took place. One day, as he was sitting in the cave, he heard a voice, later identified as that of the Angel Gabriel, which ordered him to:
“Recite: In the name of thy Lord who created, Created man from a clot of blood.” (Quran 96:1-2).
At first Mohammad divulged his experience only to his wife and his immediate circle. But, later on all the people knew about this new religion. Not everyone accepted God’s message transmitted through Mohammed. A major of people rejected him so he had to flee to a town called Madina. This event, the hijrah marks the begging of the Islamic era and its dating. Eventually, Mohammed did more than best to spread Islam around him. After that, he died in Madina in 632. .
