Helmet safety is very important, about 300,00o kids go the hospital because of bike accidents. If a kid was to fall skateboarding, biking, rollerblading or any physical activity you are participating in and hit his head without wearing a helmet, he could crack his head open or get brain damage. Always make sure the helmet fits and isn’t to tight, or to loose.
You might not like wearing helmets but its for your protection. Your helmet must have a ASTMF1492 sticker, if it doesn’t, tell your parents to get a helmet with a ASTMF1492 sticker. The U.S. government has created safety standards for them, that’s what ASTMF1492 is. Always tighten the straps, if they’re loose and flying around, the helmet is most likely going to fall off. Adjust the helmet straps to a size where you can’t twist or turn the helmet on you. Don’t throw your helmet around and mess it up, it wont protect you as well if you do. They also dont work as well after a major crash or accident.
Most helmets are pretty light now, and come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. You might want to get a light colored helmet so if your riding at night, it’ll be easier for cars to spot you.
It is important that you do wear a helmet, even a little fall cause injure your brain if your not wearing a helmet. If you hit your head, you can get brain damage but ill a helmet you have a far less chance of that happening. A skateboarder named Spencer Kinley died at the age of 15 because he was skateboarding, fell off and hit his head. This accident could’ve been avoided if he had worn a helmet that day
When I got hit by a car skateboarding, I wasn’t wearing a helmet. I should’ve been but I wasn’t, I wish I was too. My head after that was really hurting for about two week after that. It could’ve been a lot worse, I could’ve gotten permanent brain damage or cracked my head open again. In 2008, 653 bikers died from not wearing helmets.
