1. INTRODUCTION
Some people might find it hard to believe that there was once a time when cell phones weren’t around. Having to recall a time when letters were used to get messages back and forth from one person to another. Then slowly we added the addition of phones.

In the beginning phones were just a way to contact people if they happened to be home when called. Then we invented cell phones. With them we can make and receive calls in almost any location and we can send text messages . Cell phone use has increased in the past years because is really easy and economic to have one. Year into year cell phones become better and better. Today , except making and receiveing calls and also texting messages, we can do a lot of interesting things with them. For example we can listen to music, record voice notes, make video clips, play games, take pictures, access the internet and many other things.

2. TYPES OF APPS IN MOBILE PHONES
As teens gain access to mobile devices, they have embraced app downloading. But many teen apps users have taken steps to uninstall or avoid apps over concern about their privacy. Location information is considered especially sensitive to teen girls, as a majority of them have disabled location tracking features on cell phones and in apps because they are worried about others’ access to that information.
Here are some of the key findings in a new survey of U.S. teens ages 12-17:
58% of all teens have downloaded apps to their cell phone or tablet computer.
51% of teen apps users have avoided certain apps due to privacy concerns.
26% of teen apps users have uninstalled an app because they learned it was collecting personal information that they didn’t wish to share.
46% of teen apps users have turned off location tracking features on their cell phone or in an app because they were worried about the privacy of their information.

3. SOCIAL ADVANTAGES
Flexibilty
Using a cell phone in business allows for increased flexibility when working, which has numerous advantages. The more flexible you are, the greater the chances you can show clients your business is the one to go with. For example, if you're away from the office, clients can still communicate with you.
Technology
Many cell phones today have the capability of performing many tasks that your computer can. You can access the Internet, write emails and send documents from wherever you might find yourself. This, in turn, allows you to be on top of time-sensitive issues.
International
Good communication is essential to successful business practices. Cell phones enable you to be in contact with clients across the globe. If you have a telephone meeting with someone in Europe, the time difference is not as much of an issue with cell phones.

4. BAD EFFECTS OF MOBILE PHONES

Cell phones affected the way we socialize these days; if you notice people are starting to text their friends and family instead if actually speaking verbally. Many adolescents and also older generations spend more time sending text messages or chatting on Facebook than speaking.
You go out to dinner and look around and see people out with family but there is no conversations going on at the table mostly just huh… yeah… mmhm.., because they are busy texting someone not there on their phones. I feel human communicant is slowly disappearing among friends and family. You even see parent’s texting their kids when in the same house to discuss something with them. Our communication between each other is depending on a little electronic device. People use cell phones in public places, and during church. I have even seen ten-year olds walking across the street texting their friends instead of paying attention to the cars.

5. USAGE OF MOBILE NETWORKS
Well-organized contact lists that allow users to quickly separate work contacts from social contacts, and search functionality to find any given snippet of contact information instantly.
Entertainment. Does the site allow for playful or serious interactions between users in a fun and effective way? If not, a mobile social networking app could fill in the gap.
Expanding networks is a key activity for these users, and finding others with similar interests or goals is usually the first step.
Mobile syncing would empower users to access social networking sites while offline. An application that allowed caching and syncing at a later time would provide immense value.
Images, video and text are the primary ways users communicate online, so an application that simplified any of those functions would provide efficiency gains on a daily basis.
Popular local events and destinations help users meet in person, and drawing that information into a social network helps bridge the gap between virtual and real life. After users arrive at a local event, connecting them via Bluetooth would be icing on the cake.
Protecting privacy is critical to maintaining trust with users, and coaching them on how much information to make public could be another application opportunity.
Circumspect advertising will present relevant ads to interested users, bring in more income, and prevent frustration by users looking to access their content more quickly-- especially on a mobile device where screen real estate is at a premium.

6. SELECTING TARGETED GROUPS
A global market research organization says Sri Lanka’s future consumer patterns will be shaped by the growth in internet usage via mobile phones with greater access to social networking sites, particularly among the 16 to 35 years age bracket.
Some interesting facts,
Close to 70 percent of the population has a mobile phone. Ownership of mobile phone is much higher in the 16 to 35 age group. Approximately 46 percent of users access the internet through their mobile phones, 10 percent exclusively and 36 percent through a combination of modes including mobile devices. Of the total number of users accessing the internet through their mobile phone, 42 percent went to social networking sites such as Facebook. 900,000, or nearly half of the total number of internet users in the country, are on Facebook, with 78 percent in the 18 to 34 age group.

7. SRI LANKAN CELL PHONE SUBSCRIPTION
Mobile subscription has seen a rapid growth over the last two decades in Sri Lanka. The impact of mobile phones hit so hard it even surpassed the purchasing power barriers in the country. In fact every Sunil, Sarath and Siripala started owning one, regardless of their profession of being a fisherman or a city limit “tuk tuk” driver.
According to TRCSL, the total mobile subscription as of 2012 was 20,324,070. That’s almost equal to the current population of 20,869,000. Does this mean that every Sumith has a mobile phone in his pocket? Well, not exactly. Though the number of subscriptions is somewhat accurate, the number of individuals owning it is not the same, because it does not account the same person owning 2 to 3 connections at the same time.
