Religion Good or Bad
Everyone has an opinion of why religion should or should be in schools. We have a law that is already in place that allow students and teachers to practice there religions in schools, they just have to be respective of other students and teachers beliefs, if they believe or not in there religion. According to the laws of the United States, students and adults have the right time to practice religion as long as they respect others’ right to do so. Our laws state that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, or to petition the government for a redress of grievances”, (First Amendment, The Constitution of the United States). My opposition is that religion should be allowed in schools. For example, prayer is already allowed in school buses, at the flagpole, in after-hours student religious clubs, in the school hallways, in the cafeteria, and in the classroom before or after scheduled classes. Students are guaranteed the right to pray, as long as it is not disruptive, and it is not promoted during classroom hours. Prayer is what people do in certain religions, so why tale religion out of school, when the law allows them to practice apart of there religion. Even though prayer is not normally allowed as a scheduled part of classroom activities, because it would result in the violation of the principle of church-state separation, which has been defined by court interpretations of the 1st
Amendment to the U.S, Constitution. The separation principle is to Public school as an arm of the government, with an exception which can be permitted if, during the school year, a mixture of prayers, statements, are delivered, using material from a number of different religions. As long as schools continue to follow this law having religion in schools should be fine....
