1. The health information management has many important functions. One of the main functions of this department is to make sure that the medical information is kept for treatment and follow up purposes; and to get paid the the services that were provided. They must make sure that the services performed will be covered by the patients insurance. They ensure that the correct codes are applied to the claim for reimbursement. This department is also in charge of making sure that the costs being reported and the claims submitted are correct and being submitted in a timely manner. The health information management department is highly important and has numerous functions that are needed in order for the system of reimbursement to run smoothly.
2. Blue Cross and Blue Shield are two important concepts in health care coverage. Initially, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield were separate plans. Blue Cross paid for services provided from places, like hospitals; Blue Shield paid for services that the patient occurred more often, such as procedures done at a physicians office, labratory tests, ultrasounds and more. Then Medicare decided to create two different parts for their coverage, just like Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Medicare Part A covered the hospital expenses, like Blue Cross; Medicare Part B covered the physicians fees, costs for medications, labratory tests and so on. Blue Cross and Blue Shield helped to inspire many changes to the concept of health care coverage.
3. The lack of health care coverage can raise the cost of health care. People cannot go without receiving medical treatment. But when they cannott pay for it, the costs of the services is covered by physicians raising the costs of services. The U.S. has a few options for people who cant afford insurance, allowing them to be insured and be charged the same as a person who is covered. Lack of health care coverage is an important factor in the rising of health care costs.
