One of the most controversial aspects of hypnotherapy is that aspect known as 'regression', or 'regression therapy' or 'Past Life' therapy. Whilst there is, of course, much controversy generated by the concept in scientific circles, there is no little interest because of the small number of cases that appear inarguable in the sense that the narration elicited from the subject alludes to evens, persons or description (especially the detailed description of place and locale) that the subject couldn't possibly have known.
In this essay I intend to explore the 'scientific' evidence for the veracity, or otherwise, in 'provable' terms of hypnotic regression cases and also look at a comparison with another dominant model of reincarnation drawn from a wide spectrum of belief from the Buddhist World:

Evidence suggestive of reincarnation/rebirth
Within Buddhism, the classical route to knowledge of the claimed fact of rebirth is through advanced Samatha/Calm meditation, so as to still the mind to the state of the fourth jhāna, and then, in this sensitized state, to probe further and further into the past.
