    The phenomenon surrounding December 12, 2012 has captivated nearly every human on the face of the earth. As humans, we all fear what we can’t understand. Opinions of if, how and why vary from hell unleashed on earth to nothing more than a scare similar to the Y2K fiasco. Before researching and writing this paper, I was pretty much open to both spectrums and afterwards, I’m still undecided but leaning more towards a skeptic’s point of view. There’s good scientific data to influence believers and non-believers. Even more so, the coincidental information can leave one scratching his/her head or simply writing some cockamamie theory off. To add fuel to the fire, the movie 2012 was released not to long ago and it depicts the worst case scenario possible and it’s well known Hollywood has a huge influence on its audiences. It doesn’t take much to convince most people and one they’re convinced, it takes a lot more to “unconvince” them. I believe that whatever happens, one way or another, a change whether beneficial or cataclysmic will begin to occur with or without us. The most important factor is what we will do up until that point and how we will proceed to live afterwards. Something will have to give because we cannot afford to let technology pass up humanity.
    It seems that there is a vast amount of people who have changed their lives completely. They’re no longer living to provide for the future (401k etc) and there are some who are going as far as to cease paying bills! The notion is that in order to survive, one must start now by building underground facilities and stockpiling materials. One surprising preventive measure is that there are people who have actually stopped taking immunizations because they fear the government is trying to kill off the population for a better chance of maintaining the remaining population after the...
