REFLECTIVE

On my arrival, I felt some angst towards the magnanimous quest to be undertaken, the anticipated virtuosity of the calibre of both the lecturer of whom we were yet to meet and my provincial peers who would be undertaking this intense, prestigious enterprise.
On meeting the founder and the lecturer, both parties quickly set the students at ease and the Lecturer dissipated the 'angst zephyr', with a YouTube video, as I watched the Lecturers nepenthe, I was set more at ease with 'focus and possibility'. The lectures began!

Members were advised to enter into groups in order to facilitate each other with the class exercises. My reflection at that time was: " Oh God! Certainly, the process of: 'forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning', for some, in the past, had quite humorously, short-circuited from: 'forming', straight to: 'adjourning', I wondered if history would repeat itself. Nonetheless, the team process turned out to be quite

In this task I will be reflecting upon an incident undertaken on area of my work. The model of reflection I’ve chosen is Gibbs (1988), which involves reflection on the description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs 1988). The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is fairly straightforward and encourages a clear description of the situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again. The procedure in which I will be reflecting upon is Last offices; I chose this due to how constructive and valuable it was in my personal and professional development as a student practitioner nurse.…

Depending on the purpose of the group and time span of the group, this stage will vary. Some groups form for the purpose of completing short-term tasks, while others carry out long-term initiatives. Regardless of the time frame, groups should be commended on their areas of success and constructively identify areas that need improvement. It is our experience that different individuals can be grouped together on several different tasks. If the adjourning stage is handled properly, these individuals will carry a good attitude and level of camaraderie into their next group…

McDermott (2002) suggests that groups are defined by consisting of at least two persons, that share space and share a purpose. The interactions taking place amongst members may be important in the development of common goals, norms and roles, and some sense of belonging. Within the context of a group, participants find the possibility of making comparisons between themselves and others, which can become an influential source of control and reward for members. Therefore the group work undertaken may play a part in defining the individual's sense of reality. McDermott further concludes that, while groups are extremely powerful phenomena, they also hold the possibility and potential of learning how to share that power. The individual and other group participants interact and create a social experience both in the ‘here and now’ as well as in their own minds with their interpretations of what is happening. The group in the group work module consisted of 4 members, including me and the educator. When I first I had some doubt if it would be possible to see group dynamics developing in such a small group, in reality the group was very dynamic, especially at the last weekend when we had two days followed by each other. The educator worked with us as a class but also modelled at the same time our group work. The group task was the learning outcome as stated in the Module outline and the goal is to cover the content areas. The process focused on how the group developed; when the process is going well then the group is dynamic, which our group was even though we where dealing with a member that for the first half of the module was not as involved in the process than the other three members due to tiredness. As a group participant I learned a lot about myself and how I react being in a group. When meeting new people I am at first shy and introvert until I know the other group members better and have…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

My journey to become a Counselling Psychologist began in 2008 when as a Life Coach; I had a self referral who suffered from anxiety over his forthcoming exams in his second year at university. I started collaboratively setting goals to manage his workload and set timetable into manageable chunks through asking him challenging questions so that e can start to think for himself. He had plenty of resources namely his family, time, books but he just would not settle into coaching which left me feeling I was inadequate as a Life Coach and started to doubt whether he could manage at all. As a life Coach I didn’t have a supervisor so had no one to maul this situation over with.…
