A Reflection on the Folktale “How the Moon and the Stars came to be”

This story, is a folktale in the mute area in Bukidnon. This story took place in an unknown area in Bukidnon but the story was said famous. The story talks about how the moon and the stars began when a Bukidnon Spinster began her work. The sky was said that it was low at that time. So she took off her beads around the neck (necklace) and her comb and put them in the sky. The necklace and the comb went up when she was pounding the rice. When the spinster struck her pestle the sky rises because it can be poke because it was low. The spinster did not know what she is doing that’s why when she was looking for her valuables she did not realized that it was now on top (sky) and she can’t reach it. The comb that rose became the moon and the beads became the stars.

The spinster, for me is very unfortunate because she lost her valuables. The spinster was just doing her job and lost her things. The things that were put on top of the sky were now an element of the sky. The story is a folktale about why we have a moon and stars. I heard this story from my mother when I was that little of age and she (mother) also knew about this when she was young because it is a famous folktale pass by many generations to generations. The story is a bit complicated because it was been passed on and been summarized by many people. The story also tells us that the pestle of spinster’s was long. The story be or actually can be a legend of how the star and the moon.

Her father, the king, hearing this decreed anything made of flax was to be destroyed. On the eve of Talia’s 15th birthday the family traveled to a country house. There a spinning wheel forgotten or placed maliciously was found by the curious princess. She pricked her finger and promptly “died”. Overcome with grief the king took his daughter to her deathbed. He locked up the castle and left never to return.…

In a sorrowful woman the mother isn’t comfortable with her role as a wife/mother. Gayle Godwin’s uses a fairy tale stereotype to reflect the mother’s attributes. The mother feels she will fail the family and tries detaching herself from them. Most Fairy tale don’t start or end like this story but she makes a valid point that fairy tales don’t always come true. Likewise, In Separating Richard and Joan’s marriage is ruined because neither of them wants the task of having a family. Both thought differently and neither was happy with their life at their…

Growing up reading fairy tales all our lives, there was always a protagonist, and an antagonist. The moral of these fairy tales were all the same. It was the war between the good and the evil. After reading Anne Sexton poem’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, which was one of the well-known Disney fairy tales, the story seemed to be a lot different than the original theme. Anne Sexton’s poem “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was synchronized in such a manner; it brought different thoughts in the mind of the reader. The reader began to think, how it would be like, if Snow White was the witch? How it would be like, if Snow White is not as innocent as she portrayed herself? Anne Sexton’s poem “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs considered exactly opposite of the original story, which is that the queen is the innocent one and Snow White was the witch blessed with beauty.…
