This book was mainly about a guy named Charles “Chick”. After his mother passed away, he began to drift and soon he started drinking, money became a problem and he constantly fought with his wife, and over time, their marriage collapsed. He hits rock bottom after discovering that he won’t be invited to his only daughter’s marriage. And one night, he decided to kill himself.
But it was just that morning after the accident that he got a chance to be with his mother again, who died eight years earlier, and they went through a typical day talking, eating lunch together and visiting the ladies who her mother used to do makeup for. It was just like any other day that he could have spent with his mother, and this time, he appreciated everything that they went through the day.
Through reading this book, I learned one life lessons. Maybe it really is true that we don’t know what we got till it’s gone. From the book, I learned this lesson by Chick’s reaction after his mother passed away and after he lost his family, his job. He was basically left with nothing to lean on anymore; he lost the most important things in life. He drank most of his time, didn’t sleep well and didn’t eat well. And looking back at what you have lost, most of the time it would be too late to go back and change. So I learned to hold on to the ones I love and care and make every moment the best because you wouldn’t want to be left with regrets in the end.
I highly recommended people to read books from Mitch Albom. I think we shouldn’t grasp on to the mistakes we made in the past nor the anger that still triggers us from what others did before. For one more day is to go back and change, in Chick’s case, it was to make good with a lost parent, to explain the family secrets and to seek forgiveness. As we are still young, we should start appreciating everything that is important to us, because we may lose it without care.

Toni Bambara’s “The Lesson” opens with a group of children waiting around a mailbox for a woman named Miss Moore. The narrator, Sylvia, mentions that, “She’d [Miss Moore] been to college and said it was only right that she should take responsibility for the young ones’ education.” (Bambara 98).
