Reduction on Income Tax: Is It Necessary?

Abstract
The paper discussed about the tax reduction that the government proposed during the announcement of National Budget 2010. The issue was arising when some of the people agree with the changes and some of them disagree with the changes. While the government intended to do the changes, what is currently proposed by the government may not align with the needs of the citizen. Accordingly, I examined the necessity of tax reduction in Malaysia whether the changes need or not. Then, the paper also investigated the effects from the tax reduction. The paper concludes with a suggestion that the government should consider other alternatives to help the citizens and develop the country.
Introduction
The government has a big responsibility to ensure the citizens of the country enjoy the nation’s wealth in a fair and equitable manner (YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, the 2010 budget speech October 23, 2009). For example, allocates certain amount of money to build ‘rumah mesra rakyat for low income groups and provides subsidies for essential items like sugar, bread and petrol. Referring to Surah Al-Zuhkruf, verse 32,
“It is they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy (Paradise) of your Lord (O Muhammad) is better than the (wealth of this world) which the amass”.
Allah already mentioned in the Al-Quran that people who has been chosen to be a leader is accountability to serve their followers (citizen).
The Prime Minister will table the National Budget annually to disclose the performance of the country during the year and announce the expected revenue and expected expenditure of the state for the next year.
