“Rediscovering Filipino Values, I see, I act, I advocate” The Filipino is worth dying for.
These words were uttered by the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. He was truly a noteworthy man that’s why I wonder why he thought that the Filipinos are worth dying for. Nowadays, the news is filled with articles about corruption, murder, immorality, and many other unfavorable things. Because of these, the Philippines comes off as an inferior country, not only to other nations but also to us, the Filipinos as well. We could not take away our gazes from the stain that we see, that’s why; we can’t appreciate the beauty of the Filipino values. As we all know, the Filipinos are known for their hospitability. We always welcome everyone warmly no matter who it is. We serve them with the best that we can offer and we use the finest utensils that we can find for them. The Filipinos are also very religious. We devote ourselves to God. During the Holy Week, there are a lot of people reading “pasyon”, going to processions and many other religious practices. We celebrate the birth of Christ and the birth of the Virgin Mary it is also in our tradition to go to the church with our family during Sundays. We are also known for being diligent workers. We are persevering and do our best in order to produce products that have the finest quality. The Filipino farmers are very admirable with their work because they wake up very early in the morning and they spend all day planting or harvesting. The Filipino people do not know when to give up. We only know that once we fall, we just need to stand again and fight harder. Our people are very optimistic. I’m very fascinated with how the Filipinos can still laugh and enjoy their lives even when they are very poor and even when calamity strikes. We still greet each other with a smile on our face that makes others believe that there is still hope, that God will not abandon them.
