Executive Summary
Purpose
Textbooks are an essential tool for students and professors in all levels of education. This report examines key decision making criteria in order to recommend a textbook for a MBA level course of Organizational Behavior, which takes place in a Distance Learning setting. The 2 textbooks being evaluated are Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior: Indispensable Knowledge for Evidence-Based Management; editor Edwin Locke, and Behavior in Organizations - 9th edition by Abraham B. Rami Shani and James B. Lau. Criteria

The criteria used to analyze the textbooks was presented to 6 current MBA students, and 6 current or former university level professors. They were asked to rank them in order of importance, 4 being most important to have in a textbook, and 1 being the least important factor in deciding a text book. The criteria to determine the effectiveness of a textbook, in order of importance according to surveys, are: 1. Clear organization and structure

a. This provides consistency, increased readability, guides the student to important information. 2. Examples used in the text should be current and relatable b. These theories and systems are meant to be put in use in the student’s professional world. 3. Problems are audience appropriate and challenging

c. The student needs to accurately present their understanding of the material to the instructor through solving/answering problems . 4. Cost of textbook
d. The book needs to be affordable for the audience.
Analysis
By weighting the criteria, evaluating each textbook point by point to each criteria, and multiplying these 2 results, provided the calculation to determine a recommendation. * Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior: Indispensable Knowledge for Evidence-Based Management * Clear organization and structure - 78

* Examples used in the text should be current and relatable - 90 * Problems are audience appropriate and challenging - 90 * Cost of textbook – 42
* Total = 300
* Behavior in Organizations - 9th edition
* Clear organization and structure - 117
* Examples used in the text should be current and relatable - 60 * Problems are audience appropriate and challenging - 30 * Cost of textbook – 21
* Total = 228
Based on these evaluation I would recommend using Handbook of Principles of Organizational Behavior: Indispensable Knowledge for Evidence-Based Management for the Organizational Behaviors, Distance Learning course.
