For Guy Montag, I would recast his character as Tom Hanks in the movie. In the many movies Tom Hanks has starred in, he has been searching for meaning to either his life or something/someone else. A good example of this would be in The DaVinci Code where he cracks a secret Leonardo has hidden in his works of art and innovation. In Turner and Hoot, we also see Tom Hanks learning to accept new people, or animals, into his life. He also is actively attempting to crack a police case he has been working on.
The similarities between Guy Montag and Tom Hanks' many roles are rather significant. Much like the characters of Tom, Guy spends most of the book searching for a meaning to his life and society as a whole. He suddenly pulls his way of life into question, trying to find some secret he's been missing. He also allows the thoughts and ideas of new people (Clarisse McClellan) to affect how he himself thinks and views the world around him. It is for these reasons that I think Tom Hanks should play Guy Montag in the Fahrenheit 451 movie.
For Captain Beatty, I would recast his character as Al Pacino in the movie. Considered one of the best actors of all-time, Al Pacino normally takes on the dominant, leader role in his movies. In The Godfather 1 and 2 (Let's just forget about 3...), he makes his way up to being the Don of the Corleone Mafia family. He assumes the powerful position and is quick to punish anyone he sees as going against what he believes. In Scarface, he determinately makes his way to the head of an illegal cocaine cartel. Much like in Godfather, he ruthlessly rules his organization.
These two roles of Al Pacino are very similar to the traits and job of Captain Beatty. All three men are in charge of whatever mob, gang, or department they are a part of. Along with being the leader, they also rule with an iron fist. Captain Beatty is very open about his hatred and intolerance for books and readers of books. When he hears...
