Why Chinese mothers are superior

Write an essay (900-1200 words) in which you analyser and comment on Amy Chua’s article “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior”. Part of your essay must focus on how the writer engages the reader and on possible consequences of adopting Amy Chua’s values and methods of upbringing.

There’s a lot of different ways to raise your kids, and a lot of different views on which way is the right way. Amy Chua is certain that her way is the right way. In her article, she compares the way Chinese children are raised, and the way the western children are raised, and she seems to have an intelligent point of view in this article, if I may say myself. Amy Chua means that the Western parents often is ‘too good’ with their children. She means that if they want to give up at something, they respect that, and most of them often just accept it for that matter. Chinese parents would most likely keep pushing their children’s boundaries, and keep them motivated for achieving a goal, even if the kids wouldn’t want to. She means that it is because “things are always hardest in the beginning”, and that is totally right; I agree with her. Because things really does get more exciting once you are good at it, isn’t that right? The thing is here, that children should actually want to be good at these things, and Amy means that children is simply not old enough to make these choices themselves, so the parents would have to make them for them. I think this is both good and bad. Good because they will learn how the real world is when they grow up; they will learn that it takes great responsibility to live your life. The bad thing about it could be that these kids might loose their own way of thinking, and knowing what they actually want in life later on. They might feel like ‘slaves’ for a while, and yes it will be good in the end with good...
