INTRODUCTION

Diabetes mellitus is one of the commonest diseases affecting the Saudi society. The overall prevalence of Diabetes mellitus in adults in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is 23.7%. It is widespread among the society because it has genetic factors for inheritance beside other factors such as lifestyle, age, gender, socioeconomic status, and environmental factors. Diabetic patients are at risk to develop a lot of complications like cardiovascular disease. "Macrovascular" diseases atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and it may complicate to diabetic retinopathy, blindness. In addition, diabetic nephropathy, renal failure, diabetic neuropathy diabetic foot ulcers and amputation are common complications in diabetic patient. Over the past few years, the efforts to improve metabolic control in childhood diabetes have probably contributed to the decreasing prevalence of diabetic complications. As we considered School performance, to assess cognitive function for the Saudi students. In a populationbased study, we therefore examined the school marks of Saudi diabetic students with comparison to their siblings or friends. Our aim was to determine the effect of diabetes mellitus on the cognitive function of Saudi students depending on their school performance and results. We hypothesized that Diabetes Mellitus may impair the cognitive abilities of Saudi students by comparing their school results with their siblings or friends. We hypothesized that controlled blood sugar may improve Saudi students' performance and their cognitive functions.
