Week 3 Assignment 3- Final draft
The 21st century reality TV and social networking sites are based on self-promotion and self love. I believe Social networking sites are the reality television of the Internet, because the internet is being used more and less people are watching TV. Some people use these social networking sites to self-promote themselves. For example: to use blogs and to post bulletins and updates about themselves on the internet. This allows us to showcase our talents and skills so that way people can see what we are good at, and reality TV promotes the same of an individual who wants to showcase themselves using national TV.
For example, a girlfriend that went to high school with me wanted to be a radio broadcaster. So she displayed her talents of broadcasting on some of the social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. People loved logging into these sites just to see her news of the day about local celebrities. Eventually, she became very popular on these sites, and 102 jams (which is a local radio station here in Orlando, Florida) hired her to work for them. She used social networking sites to self-promote herself.
Lastly, a lot of people use both reality TV and social networking sites to cope with self-love. Some people are lacking self-esteem which drives them to spend lots of time on social networking sites to monitor their appearance and how many “friends” they have. For example, the reality show called “Tough Love” a show to help women get into relationships by helping them, in so many words, build confidence in them. I conclude that yes, the 21st century reality TV and social networking sites do promote self-promotion which allows us to show off our talents.
