Reading Reports

Description:

• Please read two books from the Penguin Reader collection or another source.

• Write one book report for each book you read

• When choosing a book, if there are more than 2 or 3 words on a page that you do not understand, then the book is too difficult for you. If you understand all the words on a page, then the book is too easy for you.

• Do not choose books that are too difficult or too easy for you. If Level 5 has too many vocabulary words per page, you may start at Level 4. If you understand all of the words per page in Level 5, then you need to start at Level 6. If the Level 6 books are too easy, look in the regular shelves of the Doucette Library. If you don’t find any books that you like, you can ask the librarian for help

• Try not to use your dictionaries!! Keep reading if you do not understand a word. Open your mind, and let the words flow inside.

• The goal of this project is to improve your reading speed and expose you to more English.

Requirements:

• You will have to prepare a short book report for each of the two books you read (maximum 300 words).

• Your book report should contain the following on double-spaced letter sized paper:

o Your name, class and the due date

o The title, the level, and the author of the book

o PARAGRAPH ONE: A short summary of the book in your own words. What is the book about? Do not copy the introduction or the back of the book. (maximum 150 words)

o PARAGRAPH TWO: Write about your opinion of this book. For example, do you like this book? Why or why not? Which parts or characters do you like best? Which parts do you dislike? Does this book have a message? What is that message? How does this book connect to your life? (maximum 150 words)

• Be prepared to discuss your book in class on the same day that the book reports are due. You may be graded on your oral knowledge of the book that you

Prove that you comprehend the reading by writing a no-nonsense summary. The summary is not a commentary or listing of topics, but rather a heartfelt, condensed, insightful synopsis of the longer, more elaborate book. This book was interesting to me, but I think that anyone older than I would find this book a slight bit easy, despite the fact that the author, Ester Forbes does use old English words that are no longer used. Throughout the story i noticed that most of the character’s personalities are boring and dull. My reasoning for this is because most of them do things that today we will find insignificant, irrelevant, and boring. Most of the characters enjoy watching TV and lying down all day. My hypothesis is that their lives are so dull because of the impact that the people didn't get from literature and reading.…
