Reaction paper on “The Queen”
I was amazed to Elizabeth I because even if she belongs to the dangerous world of political intrigue, she’s still stays as she was at first. She surpassed a traumatic actions of his father by killing her stepmothers just because they can’t bear a male heir. Although his father finally have a son, Edward VI, the boy did not live long, dying at the age of sixteen after a six-year reign, I can’t imagine how terrible it was for King Henry VIII because he only need a son and this happened. I was astound by Elizabeth because at a very young age she showed her potentials and showed exceptional intelligence, excelling at her studies well beyond any of the other royal children.
When Elizabeth's older sister Mary I came to the throne and married the Hapsburg prince of Spain, I was confused because the soon-to-be Philip II will be married to the Queen of England so how will they rule each the two nation? So I continued to watch the movie for me to find out. Mary would come to be known as "Bloody Mary" and I simply just smile and said that “Oh, the name Bloody Mary that we are scared about since elementary days came from this movie” And I so her harsh treatment to the English Protestants in her attempt to restore Catholicism to England that I didn’t expect her to do that. When Thomas the Younger's Rebellion threatened Mary's rule, I know that there will be some contradictions to Mary’s ruling and her secret will be known that she imprisoned her sister Elizabeth in the Tower of London. I am happy because a combination of luck and skillful persuasion on the part of her political allies, Elizabeth survived this ordeal and became queen when Mary died.
And again I am amazed to Elizabeth because she quickly consolidated power and returned the country to Protestantism, passing the Acts of Supremacy and Uniformity. After her achievements in life, I know that Elizabeth can rule the country ably and initiate an era of economic prosperity. I’m astonished because Elizabeth manipulated the princes of Europe, using the prospect of marriage to her as a tool but she ultimately never married at all, and I simply realized how intelligent she is.
Many plots against her aroused and I was shocked because after all her great ruling in England there will be such people like them especially Mary Queen of Scots. I know that Elizabeth was both husbandless and childless but it is not a big reason to get her throne from her. After Walsingham foiled the Babington Plot I am happy because Mary Queen of Scots was executed. And then I smiled again because there are people helping Elizabeth to fight her foes, because following Mary's beheading, Philip II of Spain, Catholic and enraged by Sir Francis Drake's constant plundering of his Spanish galleons, decided it was time for an attack. And when he launched his supposedly invincible Spanish Armada to fetch his armies fighting in the Netherlands and transport them to England I am happy because the Armada was defeated by the skillful maneuvers of the English fleet and the weather seems to be on the side of Elizabeth. And the England was saved just like the Philippines from the Spanish threat, establishing the roots of a long tradition of English naval dominance.
I felt sad when Elizabeth was in her 60s and her most trusted advisors were slowly dying. And again her intelligence made be astounded and I thought it was a good decision because on next generation she selected Leicester's stepson, Robert as her favored servant and companion. But he disobeyed orders and failed to complete with his objectives. I never thought it will be on the situation that Robert will raise a rebellion towards Elizabeth and I also never thought that it will be James I, son of Mary Queen of Scots as her successor.

One factor Elizabeth had to face, which was seen as a huge disadvantage, was her gender. This was because the society was very patriarchal, male dominated, meaning that she was seen as week and less capable of being a good leader. This was a problem for Elizabeth as she had to do more to prove that she could be a good leader.
