Based on the film, it showed how determined Marcos is to get rid of anyone who opposes him, specifically Ninoy Aquino. I’m very amazed on the courage of Ninoy because he didn’t mind what Marcos, with all his power, can do to him. It’s quite questionable to me why Marcos did not just asked someone to kill Ninoy directly and put the blame on the communist. Marcos has to put him under military court in crimes he did not commit and send him to prison. In the prison, Ninoy was tortured mentally and physically. He had to go fasting because he thought that the food given to him has poison. After suffering a heart attack in his prison, Ninoy had to go to America to seek professional help. Marcos seized this opportunity to get rid of Ninoy. Ninoy was offered to go to America for his treatment, and he accepted it. After his treatment he decided to come back to the Philippines. Marcos warns him that if he comes back, he will be killed upon his return. Marcos was threatening Ninoy and banned the his passport so that Ninoy won’t come back to the Philippines. But Ninoy still insisted; therefore Marcos has no choice but to silence Ninoy so that he can no longer oppose Marcos. I think that Marcos does not want Ninoy to be killed because he knows Ninoy’s influence to the people and what would happen if Ninoy would be killed. But in the end, he had no choice but to assassinate him. Upon Ninoy’s death, the people of the Philippines were enraged. This was the moment Marcos feared the most.
