Filipino families, who are experiencing poverty, have difficulties on how they are going to survive each day. Some are selling recyclable materials which they have gotten by asking others’ home if they have old newspapers, metals, and glass or plastic bottle, others are selling rags, and some are asking alms from other people, among others. These kinds of livelihood generate little income which is used to acquire food on their plates and sustain life. Basically, on the short film “Chicken a la Carte” by Ferdinand Dimadura, Filipino families, who are under the gloom of poverty, are lacking the kind of nutrition they need to maintain the way of life. Others, on the other hand, just die due to hunger because they are not even given a bit of food that they need.On the short film, two ladies ordered food from a certain fast food chain and end up having left over on their plate. So, the service crew took it and put it inside a trash bag. After sometime, a man from somewhere asked the crews if he can check the trash bag of food hoping that there are still consumable left over for him and his family. From the trash bag, he had picked up some half eaten fried chicken and noodles among others. He took it home and, along with his family, shared happily their so-called graceful meal.It is heart breaking to see such kind of things happening in our country. It ruins a person to witness other people feeding from others’ leftover food. And, it frustrated some people seeing that others’ do not finish all of their food. It hurts when you are wasting your food, when you know that some are experiencing great hunger, people who are not given a chance to have a decent meal in a day.
