Aspirin (1.30 g , 0.00722 mol), Caffeine (0.00666 g, 0.000350 mol) and Salicylamide (0.390 g, 0.00284 mol) were combined in a 100 mL beaker. To this beaker, ethyl acetate (20 mL) and saturated NaHCO3 (10 mL) were added. The organic and aqueous layers were allowed time to separate before the organic layer was removed and put aside. An additional portion of NaHCO3 solution (10 mL) was added and the separation was repeated. The aqueous layer was put aside in a beaker labeled “NaHCO3 Extract.” To the organic layer still in the separatory funnel, 3M HCl (10 mL) was…
Traditionally wine was seen as a “pretentious” product in U.S, but by the late 1990’s to early 2000’s, wine started to become a popular social drink for the masses. In addition, the market became more adventurous, demanding unusual “undervalued” wines instead of the traditional wines such as Chardonnay. The adventurousness was driven by “Generation X” and created a significant opportunity for wineries to meet this new unconventional demand. As the industry is still currently in its growth stage, the industry attractiveness is high. Wine is a relatively high margin product, and there is increasing demand domestically and internationally. Because of…

Tuesday August 30, 2011 The California state Senate voted to ban the plastic chemical bisphenol A, also known as BPA, from baby bottles and sippy cups sold in the state of California. Opponents had argued that if the ban was approved more companies would be open to lawsuits if the chemical was found in baby products.…
Fantastic job on this week's infograph! I like your inclusion of the 6 steps of EBP process. One article I found addresses the same steps as you've mentioned, however it also includes Step 0, which is "cultivate a spirit of inquiry" and this is important because without curiosity about best evidence to guide clinical decision making then embracing EBP can be difficult (Melnyk, Overholt, Stillwell & Williamson, 2009). The article mentions examples of questions for nurses to think about relating to spirit of inquiry, such as:…

Silver is generally extracted from ore via crushing, grinding, smelting ormaterial leaching. Zenith crushers have an very essential perform within silver ores exploration, especially in silver ores' mashing course of action. The jaw crusher is extremely well-liked to the main crusher. Additionally, the cone crusher may be used as secondary crusher. The ball mill, Raymond mill orhigh strain mill is normally utilized as grinding gear for being ready to grind silver ores in purchase to final size. The actual crushed silver ores will almost certainly be smelted to have the last goods.…

Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol). Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol, pure alcohol, grain alcohol, or drinking alcohol, is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid. A psychoactive drug and one of the oldestrecreational drugs known, ethyl alcohol produces a state known as alcohol intoxication when consumed. Best known as the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, it is also used in thermometers, as a solvent, and as a fuel. In common usage, it is often referred to simply as alcohol or spirits. the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages.…
The purpose of this lab was to extract and crystallize compounds in a mixture using acids and bases. 1 gram of the unknown was dissolved into 30 mL of ethyl acetate. The mixture was then transferred to a separatory funnel. Using aqueous solutions of different pH we were able to separate organic acids, bases and neutral compounds from each other. Using three 10 mL portions of HCl, we reacted the HCl with the base in solution. This made it possible to extract the base from the mixture. Organic acids are highly soluble in aqueous NaOH. This reaction that the acid has with the dilute NaOH helps the acid compound be extracted from the mixture. We again used three 10 mL portions this time of NaOH. It is noted that after adding each portion, whether it was HCl or NaOH, the mixture was shaken for about five minutes, this helped the added HCl or NaOH mix thoroughly through out the mixture and react with the acid or base in the mixture. After the separatory funnel stopped being swished around, the mixture in it would separate into two layers, the aqueous and organic layer, the layer extracted for the acid and base would be the bottom aqueous layer. After we gathered and labeled the “acid extract” and the “base extract”, the remaining organic layer in the separatory funnel was gathered and labeled “neutral compound”. At this point the acid, base and neutral compounds had been successfully extracted from the mixture.…
