Rational for undertaking a course of study in “Bachelors of Business Administration in Hospitality Management”. A degree in Hospitality Management can be defined as the study and practise of effectively running a business with a greater emphasis on the tourism sector. It is a multidisciplinary field of study with its main purpose to prepare its students with the expertise, commitment and skills for management, marketing and operations position that are vital to the ever expanding tourism sector. Additionally, Hospitality Management presents multiple career opportunities in one of the most diverse and exciting industries in the world, tourism, which happens to be our nation’s main industry. Hospitality and Tourism is comprised of many interrelated sectors including lodging, food service, recreational, rental cars, contract services, gaming services, private clubs and meeting planning, which collectively has a profound impact on our nation’s economy and economic growth. Stated by the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA) ‘the tourism sector is the largest and the sole retail industry in this small independent state with an estimated 50 million of annual revenue. For a country that is profoundly dependent on tourism, it needs a personnel with the right type of skills and expertise that only a degree in Hospitality Management can facilitate, therefore a student with a strong sense of achievement, as well as a robust educational academic background is needed to pursue such an ecstatic subject area and I think am suitable for such a task. Having been employed in the hospitality industry, for a couple of years, at one of the most idyllic luxury all inclusive resort, Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa. I have perfected the gift of interacting with different types of people, ensuring that they are welcome, comfortable, satiated and feel at home.
