Vocabulary set 1
1. N- Wherewithal
Definition: That with which to do something; means or supplies for the purpose or need, especial money. Sentence: After all, he was still only seventeen and sure he had the wherewithal to shape his destiny. 2. N- Prowess
Definition: Exceptional valor, bravery, or ability, especially in combat or battle. Sentence: One indicator of prowess is how much a country’s researchers publish. 3. N- Dearth
Definition: An inadequate supply, scarcity; lack.
Sentence: The problem isn’t a dearth of fish; it’s an abundance of people. 4. ADJ- Rough-Hewn
Definition: Being in a rough, unsmoothed, or unfinished state; crudely formed. Sentence: The rock was very rough – hewn.
5. ADJ- Much-Touted
Definition: Show off, swash; shoot line; brag; bluster, vaunt. Sentence: My friend was much-touted about herself.
6. ADJ- Restive
Definition: Unable to keep still or silent and becoming increasingly difficult to control. Sentence: The girl in my class was a very restive student. 7. N- Melee
Definition: A confuse struggle; especially in a hand to hand fight among several people. Sentence: There was a melee in the street after the accident. 8. ADJ- Platitudinous
Definition: Having the characteristics of platitude; full of platitudes. Sentence: The conversation I was having was platitudinous.
9. V- Cultivate
Definition: Prepare and use (land) for crops or gardening.
Sentence: I have to cultivate the land on my mom’s ranch this weekend. 10. N- Malady
Definition: A disease or ailment.
Sentence: The kid had a vary bad malady.
